I have not seen this significant piece of news posted: Saw it on JC jc-news.com The Vcc operating voltage of the P4 has been increased from 1.7v on B-2 to 1.75v for all C-1 frequencies. I can't help the feeling that things will turn very ugly for Intel in the next two years. Kap

JC: You won't get all these old compiled binaries suddenly becoming recompiled to a newer binary. You'll always have the statistic where the vast majority of programs are compiled with crappy, old compilers. So you're stuck back on square one. JC, I very carefully said current, completely new (with emphasis and everything). The problem is that even the vast majority of apps are compiled on compilers that truly suck *. If everyone would just use a reasonably recent (and decent**) compiler when they made their apps, we'd all be a lot better off. (well, the programs would run a heck of a lot better - one can discuss the implications of that) Anyway, I'm off for 10 days... skiing in the French Alps. IMHO much better than the Rockies (sorry, Scumbria) - although the climate and atmosphere of a place like Boulder is pretty much unbeatable. I certainly enjoyed the 12 months I spent there. -fyo
