Rudedog, >I would expect DELL to get most of GTW's business - they have the direct play and the SMB play. I suspect that the current pricing strategy is aimed as much at GTW as anyone. They get share from CPQ by default - CPQ isn't playing.

By SMB, do you mean selling PCs or small servers to businesses? If the former, I haven't seen the term SMB used in that context. If the latter, don't understand because, as you know, Compaq is very active in what used to be called SMB servers, name recently changed to mainstream servers.

CPQ - AAPL, have you heard anything? Seems like a huge stretch of the imagination to me, in these times, and with Compaq just getting "settled" with the DEC and Tandem purchases.

Meat and Rude
I'm confused - am I bipolar are is it you guys?
You both come across as totally Dell negative and
5 mins later you are talking about what Dell could
do to improve their/your position.
I repeat I'm confused.
Rudedog - you say you have been selling CCs to lose
your stock - but you don't get called.
THAT'S A GOOD THING.
How much of your cash is really in Dell at this point?
I've managed to pull my basis down to zero, or near zero,
and I still own the stock. That's value by my definition.

RD: Each of the HW companys weeknesses started showing up.
CPQ pulled ahead by realizing some of the gains from DEC that they should have realized earlier. Dell is not realizing an enterprise outlook, lost the edge in making investment related gains. HP has a lousy CEO. SUN is burning in its glory.
IBM alone is holding pat, because of the tremendous amount of technology they have which they didnot exploit before.
With all its good points, Dell still needs to come of the yankee trader role.
I am very disappointed with the CFO. May be time for Tom Meredith to come back from ventures.
At this point Dell is a great investment between 16-24. It will be a while before Dell deserves better stock valuations.
