At least 40% of all pregnant women will experience some type of complication during their pregnancies. For about 15%, this complication will be potentially life-threatening, and will require immediate obstetric care. {M. Koblinsky, "Mother and More: A Broader Perspective on Women’s Health", in M. Koblinsky, et al., eds., The Health of Women: A Global Perspective. Westview Press, Oxford, 1993} there are many health issues involved: pre-existing health problems, miscarriage, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, smoke, high temperatures, radiation exposure, prescription medications, nausea and vomiting, chronic fatigue, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, bleeding gums, toxemia, swelling/fluid retention, dizziness, low blood sugar, gestational diabetes, RH factors, group B strep, amniotic fluid complications, placental complications, cervical infection, anemia, breech delivery, pre-term delivery, cesarean and those are only the health issues. it doesn't even begin to address the social, psychological and personal issues so maybe to you it is a mere inconvenience, but to the woman who will be going through this process, it is a life altering decision
