Chicago Fed plans new monthly economic report
WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago said Friday it will release a new report starting next month to track national economic activity and inflation.

The Chicago Fed National Activity Index is adapted from methodology developed by economists at Harvard and Princeton universities, the regional Fed said.

``(The) approach is that a common factor exists in all inflation indicators and it is this factor, or index, that is useful for predicting inflation,'' the Chicago Fed said in a news release.

The index will be based on a variety of factors, including output, income, employment, consumption, housing activity, manufacturing, trade and inventories.

The report will be issued once a month at 10 a.m. EST (1500 GMT) on the day of the release. The first report will be issued on March 5, reflecting January data.
