Elmer, When running modern code the P4 is in a class of it's own. No. Yesterday Paul posted a link showing recompiled 1.7GHz P4 code at the same performance as a 1.2GHz Athlon. Doesn't bode well vs. Palomino. Scumbria

Modern Code I will concede will probably do well on a P-IV (as it will on an Athlon).. but then you get into the situation of the code taking time to get re-written.. I have seen several articles saying that P-IV optimizations will not happen over night. Therefore.. the tech sites testing will have to stick with what they have to go on now.. for awhile.. and draw t heir own conclusions from that.

The P4 doesn't do as well on old code. When running modern code the P4 is in a class of it's own I think you mean to say "The P4 doesn't do as well on current code. When running not-known-when-will-be-available-future code the P4 is in a class of it's own." Muzo
