Only in an unachievable utopia is everyone always going to do the right and best thing. We all know that.

James, that's what we have Laws for.

Actually "grant" is as good as any word because you are right.....it will never stop and the "right and the best thing" is all that can be hoped for.

Abortion for failed contraception is not acceptable to me...and I sincerely hope it would not be acceptable to others...

If I could write the laws.....I would stop abortion for failed contraception. And I don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about aborting a child in any of the other instances. But I can understand why it would be thought to be a cure for problem. In these cases, perhaps is where "choice" is fitting. Undoubtedly there will be those who choose to carry a child to term regardless of the event causing conception as well as those who can not think of any other remedy than abortion.

What do we do? Perhaps the best that can be hoped for is that our generation...40 something's who have younger children instill a sense of value of the human race in general. Perhaps the novelty of being able to have an abortion if you screw up is wearing off. Perhaps the damage of the 60's and 70's is being repaired.

I don't think organized religion is the answer and I don't think militant mental swings will help either. Sadly, today both extremes seem to think they have the solution. We have a macro problem, with only micro answers.

Perhaps a law of "one to a customer" is the answer....best save your opportunity just in case that rape or incest happens down the road. What about a law that provides for abortion and automatic sterilization after the first abortion? Do you suppose that unlimited abortion on demand is really the problem? What if there was a law prohibiting children from being born for the next 10 years to anybody....and abortion was required....what if the law only lasted for 10 months.....what would the next 30 days be like?
