the nice thing about such exchanges is that the weaknesses of the bulls arguments can be exposed nicely...they are glib in their belief that the semi-communist central planning agency can somehow engineer booms at will...this is ridiculous beyond words.

and btw, who knows, it may well be that this supercycle bear will be deeper and longer than is now generally expected...as you say, people's priorities are very likely to shift in this case, away from the stock market and toward questions of survival.

Actually:m arkets do go up but over very long periods of time the return above inflation is very small.
I'll try to find the link.
