About a dozen years ago I met James Meredith, who desegragated the University of Mississippi. He was working for Jesse Helms, who has, by the way, repented of segregationism. His comment?: "Different times, different issues."........As a New York Times Magazine article observed back in the 60s, most Southern "liberals" (on race) would have been considered conservative in any other part of the country. It is simply a conservative region......

What cannot be denied is that Dems have always used race to divide the country. Where they once used the race card against blacks, they now use it against whites.
