iso,

interesting about the russian missle tests. how about a conspiracy theory involving both countries ramping up defense spending, a pseudo-war footing, to improve their ecomonies, ala w.w.II?

i am sure we would have the wherewithal; put all those closed-down auto factories to use... don't know if the russians could do it without some foreign aid. how would we channel the not-quite-dry dollars to them?

really am counting on the mid-east to light a fire soon. but have no political opinions on sharon, et al. i lived in kibbutz beit oren in '65, and when my visa ran out went to work as an illegal alien in eilat at the timna copper mines. $3/day and all the hash you could inhale. memorable days, if i could just recall them.

p.s tommaso:

i can't quite see 'a house without debt' being a great bet in an inflationary enivroment. it is those who hold the most debt who benefit most from inflation - no? a deflationary environment, otoh, is devastating to debt-holders. i find it interesting that don hays is calling for an 8 - 10 year deflationary period. considering that japan has seen consumer spending fall for 37 consecutive months, i can imagine it.
