From Cisco's John Chambers:``I wish the American central bank had reacted faster instead of on old statistics. If they had started to lower rates back in November things would look different today,'' he was quoted as saying. I hope Mr. Chambers is a good CEO, because as an economist he's a bit off-base. Now if he said raised interest rates in 97/98, I'd agree. I remember getting caught in the 98 market correction. I learned a valuable, if somewhat overpriced, lesson. I also remember thinking, when it ended, how healthy that correction to an overvalued market was. I've since learned that there's overvalued and there's OVERVALUED.

The bottom line: The United States is in a healthy position, and the service industry's dominance should provide a healthy cushion against a nasty recession. Aaaah, a real economist speaks, that makes me feel much better.

Hi Dolinar, really appreciate the input on the European side of the mania.

However much we outside of Europe may think we know about European market sentiments (and I do not know) we need on site comments about the atmosphere. We do know that Orange rotted.

Also appreciated confirmation of universal distaste for CNBC Maria. Although I am having a bit of difficulty thinking of Maria as a vestal virgin or any other kind of virgin. You Europeans apparently do have a stronger imagination.
