I never had the opportunity to meet him personally. When he was under consideration for the presidency of St. John's College, my wife (who was an administrator at the time) partook in a "tea" with him, so that upper level staff could get acquainted. She found him very pleasant. I worked in the office many hours during the summer, and took time after school and on weekends during the fall, until I got sick with bronchitis sometime in October. I manned phones, sat at tables in shopping centers, went door to door, the whole nine yards of campaign grunt work. I knew he wouldn't win, but wanted to make a statement. No money, but they kept the fridge stocked pretty well with sodas and coldcuts.......
