"Going to go to Win2000 with the upgrade version. Am I going to have to install Win98SE in order to do the upgrade? "

No, you will need to have your Win98 CD handy though. During the install, W2K will see an empty drive and ask for the Win98 CD to verify that you are entitled to use the upgrade version.

(sorry, can't answer your other questions )

Important Before you begin, you should also read the file Read1st.txt, which is on the Windows 2000 Professional CD. This file contains late-breaking information that was unavailable when this book and Windows 2000 Help were written, including preinstallation notes vital to the success of your installation.

Computer book...

I find the "Unleashed" series of books helpful. They seem to be able to assist total beginners while still filling the role as an accurate and useful resource for those who wish to tackle advanced topics.

Although I haven't seen the Windows 2000 Unleashed book, I've used Office 97 Unleashed and found it well written.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. It's also a thick book. No matter how windy it gets, I can open my office window, and the papers under this book never leave my desk.

hi judy

welcome to the thread. we're glad you found us too. <g>

i saw your post much earlier and wanted to reply, but i just haven't had the opportunity until now.

anyway, i installed win2000pro about three months ago. i spent a disproportionate amount of time preparing for the install, the thought being that the more time i spent up front, the less probs i'd encounter down the line. whether by luck or by design, that's the way things seemed to transpire, too. i'm real, real happy with win2000.

i know that you have received several very helpful responses already, and i do not wish to inundate you with information. so just let me include this link #reply-14859950 and say that there are some excellent resources included therein.

please let us know how things progress for you. and good luck

:)
