Exactly. They lent to an insolvent country. Mexico should have defaulted on the debt, and forced the creditors to suffer. Mexico would not have failed, Goldman would have. At the very least, the people who were in charge of Goldman and other Wall Street firms which risked everything on Mexico should have been fired. But, just as Walter Wriston was allowed to repeat his mistakes, so was this group of buffoons.

So you therefore automatically assume that any rescue package is a vast conspiracy concocted by powerful NY bankers

I made two connections which are factual. Why don't you address them instead of spewing inflammatory rhetoric? If you want to get sensationalistic, we can talk about the fact that Citibank was laundering money for the PRI.
