If Gerorge W Bush chooses to be responsible and daring, Texas style, he can start his speech by saying:

"My fellow Americans and those around the world whose fortunes are tied up with our economy and system, I have personally and massively shorted the Nasdaq, Dow, and Yen. I have required all top cabinet officers to do likewise. I have done this to (1) clear the deck of excesses and falsehoods, (2) prepare the field for Spring planting, (3) lower the bar for the tax reduction to hurdle over, and (4) be responsible to the next generation. I will be criticized for this ..."

Now, that would be a speech to remember, and by generations of grateful investors the world over. Tears will well up from my eyes, and the joy will overwhelm any fear of the abyss, the markets will immediatedly drop to a clearing level, and all will be able to get on with construction, enterprise, and learning.

Right, like rallying the Arab world behind Saddam Hussein. I think it's about time the U.S. realizes that being able to exterminate all and sundry on this planet 250 times over is not going to give her respect any more. Now Bush wants to improve the morale of the military. Why? They only kill the enemy from 20,000 feet up in the air. Is that so demoralizing? Maybe the wonderfully controlled killings of civilians in Serbia of past got them down???(Of course if they had to fight an infantry war on the ground they'd probably bungle each other to death).
The U.S. better learn to live with the fact that they're a borderline third world country. The world had better learn that third world markets need to be discounted heavily for fraud, lies and general lack of integrity.
