The biggest consumption of bandwidth will clearly be entertainment industry related - streaming video, audio, multimedia, etc

What do you make of INTC's decision this week to shut down its streaming media distribution business and take a $200 million write-off?

My take isn't that Akamai is that awesome of a competitor, but that INTC made a decision that the market in the foreseeable future could only support a very limited number of providers. I think we're in agreement here, just adding more fuel to the "bandwidth glut" fire.

I don't quite agree with your take on the consumer anti-bandwidth cartel. AOL? Hollywood? MSFT? Murdock? These are some of the proponents, but I agree they will want various special purpose, tightly controlled, etc. software overriding content delivery to protect their massive investments made and being made.

Re: Entertainment using bandwith. I read where movie theaters will have movies piped in via fiber in the future. Multiple theaters could be broadcast at the same time. Of course, they will all start 15 minutes late to sell more popcorn. <ggg>
