Tony, Well, dell seems to be backing away from investment to match CPQ, well if they can get add-on cards makers and SCSI chip set makers, like Mylex, Adaptec , NCR etc, to vend in solutions that are as good as CPQ's ones then they can make the model keep working.
Of course it then becomes an IP war between CPQ/mylex/adaptec, etc. If these add in providers can make good cost effective solutions to the various market locks CPQ has then dell will be able to checkmate CPQ and let it's low cost strategy gain share at the top end. It all depends on how much margin these providers want....too much and they kill the goose that laid....
I am betting they will come to an agreement as they are alsoe getting shut out of the CPQ market as CPQ originates it's own solutions internally and buys fewer Mylex cards, etc.
