Take the power capacity you quoted in the beginning post and cut it in half for maintenance and hydro that has been forced offline. Suddenly the true problem becomes visible.

The visibility is a little hazy. If you go by the averages one could conclude that power plants are being taken off line unnecessarily. It would be a convenient way for someone to manipulate a market and stay out of legal trouble. One can always find a maintenance issue in need of attention. I have personally experienced maintenance departments taking other types of equipment off line for no good reasons and there was nothing I could do about it from any level...just roll with the punches.

IMO when the power producers are guaranteed payment for the juice they sold to the private utilities then the stage three alerts will diminish and fewer plants will be *down for maintenance*. IMO they are attempting to force a state bailout of the utilities. Indeed they are refusing to sign long term contracts until the issue with the utilities is resolved.

Anyhow the issue for us should be where's the best place to put our money? The political crisis will be resolved. The state will have to build more infrastructure. How do you play the infrastructure?
