Tried to respond earlier, but connections are not working well. I did copy a draft of the post, which follows.

Your links may prove to be helpful. I hope at least.

We are working with them tonight to see what we might be able to do; I have not looked forward on this thread past your post. We are trying to address this one suggestion at a time in order to eliminate the problem once and for all.

support.microsoft.com

This looks like the problem but the resolution of the problem is not right, somehow.

support.microsoft.com

This is closer but only addresses Win 95, Win98. We are looking at it anyway.

The major issue with this problem is, once we try to put in a "fix" the machine may not re-boot properly. In other words, as long as it stays up everything is fine but if I have to re-boot I may never be able to get back to this thread.

So excuse us, please, if we do not show for a bit. It might be because the machine is not functioning.

Thank you for the driver links, by the way. They may come in handy.
--------------------------

Since trying your suggestions, we are convinced that it must be a W2K issue and anything to do with W98 or W95 won't apply. Still completely baffled but thanks for trying to help.
