Michael, agreed about the benefit of having the steering wheel ... glad to hear your mother is fine nevertheless.

No idea how no-fault insurance works in Texas, but in Quebec my rates didn't go up, nor did I have to pay the deductible. I had a similar situation a few years later where I had a fender smashed by a hit and run snowmobiler, of all things. My insurance told me that if the cops caught the guy the same situation would apply, otherwise I'd have to pay up. (Fortunately, it turned out to be the town drunk, and the cops had him within a couple of days - g).

Mike, I think the rule of thumb is that if you can bench press 12-15 times your body weight, you don't need seatbelts in a 35 mph crash. I, for one, don't qualify.
