Dan,

I have seen no rhyme or reason to the Boxed Intel computers in stock of TC Computers. They must be engaged in some kind of trading with those chips. They have say 1000+ of certain processor in stock one day, none the next day, and 2 days later, they have the exactly same number of the same processors in stock again.

I have a spreadsheet with some data, and I can see a steady pace of selling the OEM processors (Athlon 1 GHz, 1.2 GHz and 900 MHz seems to be the strongest sellers), but I have no idea what's going on with the Boxed ones.

One thing I noticed is how psychology affects the selling. The "odd" speed grades of 950 MHz and 1.1 GHz are not selling well. I expect that the "odd" speed grade of 1.133 GHz will not be selling well either if the 266 MHz FSB are widely available in 1 GHz and 1.2 GHz speed grades.

Dan - RE: "What do you think is causing this? P4 1.4 Boxed is $781.99 and they have 1471 in stock. P4 1.4 OEM (including bundled fan and heatsink) is $565.99 and they'll order one for you if you want one."

The boxed versions have 128MB RDRAM.

Check this out, even more Windows 64 bit rumors - icrontic.com

"Blackcomb will work seamlessly with 64-bit chips like the Itanium and Sledgehammer. In fact, Blackcomb will be designed with these chips in mind instead of simply having "support" for them like WinXP."

Blackcomb is Win 2000 successor.

Dan,

Another thing about the 1.4 GHz P4 sales: They had 1265 of them in stock on 2/14/2001, they apparently sold 8 the next day, but they ordered more, and now have 1471 in stock.

On the other hand, they sell about 50 to 70 Athlon 1 GHz per day, but they keep their inventory between 100 and 500. Something is strange here, don't you think?
