FWIW, I've seen construction activity pick up noticeably in my neck of the weeds. Help-wanted ads in the local rag were kinda thin 4 to 6 weeks ago, but have been noticeably better in the last two weeks. Some retailers here have closed (Ward, Kmart), but HD just opened about two months ago and they've been reasonably busy, even though there's a Lowe's across the street.
Over the weekend, I checked Dreyfus.com and read the comments from Dick Hoey, their chief economist. He says he thinks the economy was in a borderline recession at the start of the year, but that this will be the mildest recession of the post-war era, even though mild recessions can be painful for some.
Again, just FWIW. I believe we can gather more insight from one another's observations (Peter Lynch style research) than we can from a dozen Wall Street gurus.
Just IMO.

Greg, how about the idea they are trying to make do with existing house rather than buy a new one.
Or.....
Things are so great that they are fixing up existing house in advance of a buying a new one.
Or....
Traditional Spring Cleaning

Trying to add to the confusion, whenever possible. gggg
