No, that appeared to be the ticket. Installing it was merely downloading it and opening the file.

I have a hunch that the driver was corrupted while the Speed Disk app was running. Then as well after installing the new driver I used Norton's WinDoctor and found that the software I.D.'d a "pointer" error. I then took the chance and had the error "repaired".

Re-booted several times since, no problematic issues as yet so thanks much. Perhaps it also had something to do with the later driver version.

By the way, there is a degree of useful support here hwnd.net when things go wrong. If you are sensitive to off-color language then I would not suggest that you visit the site.

Too late? Well, perhaps I should have placed the warning ahead of the link. Next time I shall have to remember to do that.
