"While the fine sounds steep, you must remember that in Texas"

Umm, I have lived in Texas all my life. While I'll grant you he might not have been stopped in Midland, but that would be because he was an influential person there at the time. I remember as a kid that the Highway Patrol would set up road blocks and check for people driving drunk. The coverage was notably higher during holidays. So in East Texas at least, it was discouraged. Now true, the penalties weren't all that high usually, local judges had a great deal of discretion on penalties which could include jail time even for a first offense. As far as the movies go, well I remember one that was supposed to have been set in Liberty Texas which had tumble weeds and mountains in the background...

"Frankly I assumed you were younger because most people lose their strong liberal tendencies by 40"

Like most people I know, I am liberal on some things, conservative on others. I don't have much use for Smirk, but that isn't because he might be conservative. It is because of his history. As far as my grades in college, I was working and paying for it.
