Alcatel CEO: To Achieve 25% 1Q Revenue
Growth Target

Dow Jones Newswires

SINGAPORE -- French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel SA
(ALA) expects to achieve its 25% sales growth target for the first quarter of
2001, the company's Chairman and Chief Executive Serge Tchuruk said
Monday.

"It looks like Alcatel is doing better than most of its competitors," he said,
adding, "I see no reason to change the outlook in the first quarter."

Tchuruk comments come following warnings of slower sales by Alcatel's main
north American competitors such as Nortel Networks Corp. (NT).

Serge Tchuruk said Alcatel is less affected than its competitors because North
America accounts for only a quarter of Alcatel's sales.

Sales to Europe and the Asia Pacific, which account for 52% and 9% of total
sales, respectively, are still healthy, cushioning overall sales, he said.

The Asia Pacific, he said, is also poised to grow stronger. Tchuruk said he
expects sales to grow 15% to 20% in the region in 2001, nearly double the
industry average.
