Q39: Honda partnered with Sundiro because Chinese law requires China companies to be partners. Honda already has a partner for auto manufacturing - Honda/Sundiro will go after scooters motorbikes and those funny little three wheelers used throughout rural China. Honda does not make 2S engines themselves but subs them out to other manufacturers, and the company emphasis was moving away from 2S engines. An article over on Yahoo that I may have posted indicated that Honda was reconsidering its exit from the 2S market due to technological advances.
To my knowledge Honda's technology in 4S engines is comparable to OCP 2S as far as emissions and fuel consumption are concerned, but the advantages of the 2S engine - weight, simplicity and cost create the dilemma for Honda. That is why the outcome of the Honda/Sundiro JV is so important to OE. IMO Honda will either stick with in house technology for China, knocking OE's hopes for China, or they may adopt OCP, which would be the next best thing to an auto deal.
All the talk about OMC and its outcome will have little effect on OE because of the low volume.
