Mark, what perfect timing for that post! Such great encouragement to hang in there.
I have the HD in after figuring out how to put it a smaller bay - previous HDs were caddied - and hopefully have all the cables attached right etc. So going to call it quits for tonight - 2AM - a think about FAT32 vs NTFS before continuing tomorrow.

I just went to Windows update at windowsupdate.microsoft.com and noticed the driver update below for my system (Dell Inspiron 500 with OS 98 SE and 128 MB RAM).
Since my system is running ok I'm not sure if it's worth updating the driver. I have learned from past experiences that if it's not broken don't fix it. Do you know what the advantage is over the previous version? Do you think it would be safe to update the driver?
