Paracelsian Announces Japanese Patent
ITHACA, N.Y., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Paracelsian, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: PRLN - news) announced today that the Japanese Patent Office has issued to Paracelsian Patent #3144689, detection of dioxin-like compounds through the use of the company's Ah-IMMUNOASSAY® Kit.

Dioxin-like compounds are highly toxic environmental chemicals which are found worldwide and which are known to contaminate a wide variety of environmental and food samples. Their detection by the Ah-IMMUNOASSAY® method of Paracelsian involves the transformation of a cellular protein responsible for the toxicity of these compounds. The amount of transformation depends both on the relative concentration and the relative toxicity of these compounds. The method can be used as a cost-effective screen to identify which samples are those that are most contaminated. In this way further investigation of possible problems is economized and focused on those samples which are most problematic.

``This is Paracelsian's sixth patent related to the company's core technology, and the first outside of the United States,'' said Dr. T. Colin Campbell, President & CEO. ``This patent, which is equivalent to US patent # 6,127,136 (October 5, 2000) continues the process of strengthening our position in the worldwide dioxin detection marketplace,'' continued Dr. Campbell.

``The need for a screening method for dioxins in Japan is enormous,'' said Mr. Yasuo Kobayashi, Deputy General Manager of Kubota Corporation (NYSE: KUB - news). ``Paracelsian's Ah-IMMUNOASSAY® Kit is a powerful tool to meet these needs. Moreover, the Japanese patent means that the Paracelsian technology is second to none, and Kubota's Ah-IMMUNOASSAY business is sure to be enlarged because of this patent,'' stated Mr. Kobayashi.

Paracelsian also announced today that Kubota Corporation will place an order in April 2001 for 200 Ah-IMMUNOASSAY(TM) Kits. ``This is the first phase of Kubota's long term commitment for distribution and sales of the kit in Japan,'' said NoriYoshi Inoue, Paracelsian's Director, International Business Development. ``Kubota recently negotiated two new contracts for the purchase of the kits in Japan. Because of the increased interest, Kubota has assigned two additional full-time employees for distribution and sales of the kits in Japan,'' concluded Mr. Inoue.

Kubota Corporation has subsidiaries and affiliates that manufacture and/or market Kubota products in more than 130 countries. With approximately $9 billion of revenue, Kubota is a leader in the control and resolution of environmental contamination problems in Japan. Last year, Paracelsian and Kubota signed a License Agreement whereby Kubota will commercialize Paracelsian's Ah-IMMUNOASSAY® Kit in Japan.
