*OT* Greg, how this for a untenable idea...

Everyone who wants to have a kid should, by law, take "baby/children" education courses for up to a year before the event....you should have to take some sort of test, and get a licence....additionally, there should be some mechanism for money to come directly out of the parents' paycheck (into a blind trust- administered for free) to fund that child's college/technical degree (or even "get a good start in life" fund)..

If I sound like I am being unfair to the economically-unprepared-to-have-a-kid group, and other adults who know very little about the importance of parenting...yeah, I guess I am....but so what? I think our society has so skewed individual rights vs. the rights of greater society....some debate is needed....a simple example: The breakdown in courtesy in today's society. It is simply appalling...The "me, me, me" of individualism is showing some really nasty edges. Of course, in a society like ours that so values the almighty $, what can we expect, huh?

I am all in favor of any education provided (in school) to emphasize the benefits of pushing back the age of both women and men to get married, have children....until they are emotionally, financially, etc. ready...IMO, everyone should have to go out on their own and make their own way in the world (be in after college...or straight out of high school)....grow as a person...before entering these deeper commitments.....We have to letting kids have kids.

Problem is: Our reproductive organs are mature..way before most are mature socially, career-wise, financially, spiritually, or otherwise.....we mature sexually first, when, ideally perhaps, that would come LAST <G> (for the betterment of the whole of society)

Also, while we're at it, do that thing that seems to work well on Sally Jesse Raphael (g): have the teenage girls spend 2 days with the "baby with a microchip" strapped to them....crying...needing to be fed like a real baby, etc., so they see how it impacts their lives.......also, find some equilivent for boys too...that should help eliminate more than a few teenage pregnancies....
