I guess the thing that bugs me the most about AJ's posts is that I think that Ayn Rand had some valuable insights (she was also a bit of a nutball).
More than you know, I agree with you. While Ayn Rand did, (and in some instances still does), have some valuable points about her beliefs, believe me when I tell you that aj is FAR, FAR, FAR from being an Ayn Rand practicioner.
As you described his acts in your own post, you have the answer to his lack of belief in what Ayn Rand professed.
The guy is a nothing, a charlatan of the first order. A well-chosen handle, just an "average joe". He is even WORSE than your average Ayn Rand nut case.
If he had any regards, (or knowledge), of the value of Ayn Rand he would have NEVER even attempted to do what he did, further, read some of his other posts, all he is doing is attempting to instigate arguments. Poet has handled the situation, as she usually does, in a simple, straightforward and effective manner. In addition, as I indicate, Ayn Rand herself said:
"There can be no conflict of interest between rational men (women)"
AJ is the furthest thing from a "rational" being there is. You yourself proved it in your response to me, describing his actions.
It is indeed unfortunate what we have witnessed here in the last month or month and a half by the unbelievable attitudes, posts, and indeed actions of the lobotomy commando of this SI Universe against Poet.
Unless we would be dealing with criminals, psychopaths, or zombies, I can guarantee you that in real life, if we were in a gathering, or social event, or whatever you want, but a real life situation NONE of the comments, innuendos or actions would have ever occurred. NEVER.
Unless, I repeat we would be dealing with the types described above. In which case, a quick call to 911 would have resulted in placing the perpetrators in their corresponding restraining jacket and a one-way visit to the funny farm.
I also understand your concern for Poet in regards to why would ANYONE has to put up with this type of threat, behavior or attitude. If I were in her situation, I would probably be equally mad as hell and concerned.
To me, a great deal of the reason why these animals have attacked her the way they have is because quite frankly, she is a woman with more cojones and intelligence than the pack of hyenas that have been hounding her.
In addition, she tells it how it is, and she is not ashamed to say whatever she believes in. Frankly, at times she surprises me for what she says, and in a way that wow, she is cool how she says it. None of her attackers have at any time acted anywhere near with such display of courage and clarity. Their acts are those of desperados cornered into the dark hole of their brains.
All this, has these people seething with hate, anger, and envy.
It is high time that these medieval zombies recognize that a woman can an does have more brains, and knows how to use it than many of the brutes that all they have to show for their cause is a penis and bigger muscle, and that is just because mother nature simply built men that way.
The stress and effort in defending oneself is still there even when there is no dirty dealings going on.
I understand well, I have been under the EXACT same position, in real life. Unfortunately it is a trait of the society we live in. My philosophy is, simple...
You want to fight ? Come and get it, it will NOT be for free and YOU will pay the consequences. I have been forced to do it NOT once, several times. I have had NO CHOICE" --rather, no viable choice. Their intention is to intimidate. However, it has been my experience that in the end, I HAVE WON. Every single case I confronted.
Do I find it disgusting? Of course I do. But I have learned and perhaps I have grown a thicker skin.
This isn't the first time that this tactic has been used on Poet and I find it disgusting. If someone can't confront the issues at hand and has to resort to innuendo and threats, obviously the foundation of their position is pretty weak.
I am fully aware of it... I believe, in general, you and I read the same stuff... so I have seen it.
I attempted to extract an apology from one of her attackers only to be snuffed at and treated like an idiot, until I presented all the necessary proof and the clear evidence of this poster's lies.
Every time I have seen such innuendos, Poet comes out swinging hard, and every single time she knocks them dead...their mangled virtual brains show the scars of Poet's might, since usually their next post is either more idiotic, or simply do not respond to her questions. Witness the last one with AJ, asking him what he meant by his comments. The coward did not even have the balls to address the question, instead, he proceeds to inundate the options thread with a display of moronosity only reserved for apostles of Attila the Hun in need of Zoloff
Anybody that pulls that kind of crap should be shunned by the community, so maybe your idea of just ignoring him is the right one.
Of course... the record is already clear for everyone to see the product of their "mind". This is what at the same time makes me shine with glee and surprises me to no end....
All the zealots, charlatans, dupes, right wing zombies, prolife maniacs, pseudo messiahs, and all the other sundry psychopaths we encounter in this SI world really do justice to their causes and display their guacamole inside of their minds and spill the marmalade in full Technicolor for us to see, read and gasp in their posts.... "Wow, this guy is really tormented..."
Once their folklore is displayed, the ignoring part is the only option, not only do you save yourself a lot of grief, as the negative energy that they are, without further stimulation, they eventually go away, (after they have been exposed).... Yet the record is there for everyone to see how crazed their mind really is.
As for the Ayn Rand Nutz Platoon... believe me when I tell you I have seen them all, too bad Ayn Rand is no longer alive so she could have a chance to discredit these maniacs.
There is a saying that goes like this: "If I tell you that the mule is blue, it is because I hold the paintbrush, (and blue paint can), in my hand". I do know about the Ayn Rand Nutzeria.
