I guess anything is possible, but the cheaper, higher capacity pathways will get used up first because of its cost advantage. But then again, the next technological advance will be upon us before this happens and those that can upgrade will have yet a bigger advantage.

Sort of like someone trying to sell old 486 computers (because they still have capacity in place) for higher prices then someone selling the latest technology.

You do make a good point comparing this technology to the computer industry. Innovation lead to more powerful machines with ever more powerful software at lower costs which translated into lower prices and higher demand with each technological advance. I think the telecommunications industry is in a similar situation that computers and software were in years ago.
