Not QCOM. There will be no dissembling necessary from them IMVHO. You are correct that peak rates will likely never be achieved, & that's exactly what QCOM says too..... peak rates. QCOM's CDMA tech will be able to provide broadband wireless access to voice & data almost anywhere, anytime you want/need it. AND even their 2.5G wireless (CDMA2000 1x), coming soon to the US of A, will provide fully mobile access at peak rates of 153kps, then 307kps...... qualcomm.com Their CDMA2000 1xEV (HDR) will have a peak of 2.4 Meg's & their will be plenty of nodes providing @ 2.4mps in each station.qualcomm.com QCOM has stated that they will be able to provide sufficient bandwidth for carriers to compete with 'All you can eat' broadband access. qualcomm.com You are correct that as you increase the number of customers online, they will compete for the available bandwidth. That's no different than any other system wireless.... or wireline....... capacity will limit peak bandwidth across the number of concurrent users. BTW, QCOM & others are working on standards for upgrades to HDR to increase the peak rates considerably (a several fold increase)....... 1x is here & now & works...... HDR has been successfully tested & will be commercialized soon...... if the upgrades to HDR are successful, carriers will be quite competitive with wireline broadband...... AND wireless will be the only mobile solution...... untethered access.... anywhere..... anytime. The whole GSCO presentation starts here...... It's very informative IMO.....qualcomm.com I tried to find a link to another presentation that gets more into capacity capabilities & timelines for commercialization of CDMA 1x & 1x EV, but was unable. In any event, I've followed QCOM long enough to believe their accomplishments & forecasts for CDMA tech going forward..... they seem to be contrary to your view of wireless. FWIW, if you believe CDMA 2.5 & 3G won't deliver as forecast, I must respectfully disagree. Ö¿Ö
