OK experts...this is your chore for tonight. I have been having a lot of trouble and have decided to reinstall the OS WinME. I have an OEM version of the OS and a Win98SE boot disk to reformat the C drive and load the necessary CD-ROM drivers to begin installation. I own Partition Magic 6.0 and the HD looks like this at the present C: used 3.88 free 1.47 D: used 2.04 free 5.82 and D: used 4.54 and free 1.18 The current D drive has some programs and data that I moved from an old machine as well as an upgraded version of WinME. I could perhaps take some space from it if needed.
My thinking at this point is to us PM to copy the C:drive to a new adjacent drive that I would make bootable if this can be done. I could then reformat and reinstall the OS onto the old C. My ultimate objective would be to use part of the current D drive for programs and part for backup.
My goal is to accomplish this with very little reinstallation of programs and hope that Norton can point the moved applications to the new C.
I had tried to just reinstall the OS on top of the current one as we used to do with 95 and 98 but it wouldn't work. It got as far as "beginning to copy files" and just stopped. It may be that the OEM CD found the old ME there and quit at that time. Really don't have clue.
Thanks for any advice
