E

Please don't ever be embarrassed to post any problems on this thread. Everyone on the thread has been computer illiterate at one time. We know what you are going through because we have been there. Everyone that posts here is more than willing to do what ever they can to help.

Assuming Norton Pro is very close to Norton standard you should run Cleansweep on a regular basis. Just click on Cleanup and then Fast and Safe Cleanup and you'll be surprised how many megs of junk gets cleaned up. I run it daily and usually get rid of from 20 to 50. Under the settings button you can click on each type of file to be cleaned and a description will be displayed in the lower section.

Under Internet you have other options you can look at such as Cookie Cleanup, Internet Cache Cleanup, etc. You can run them individually but Fast and Safe Cleanup handles them all with one swoop.

I would be careful under the Advanced heading. Everytime I've been in there deleting duplicate Dll's and the like I have had to restore them to bring my computer back to life. I guess I found out I don't qualify as advanced. <gg>

When I post stuff, I usually check on my system to get the menu choices, tabs, and buttons named correctly. Trouble is, my software's getting a few grey hairs. The younger stuff has some differences. Your SW Pro 2000 probably differs from my SW Old 199?.

I used the generic term browser cache, but maybe if I'd said Delete Temporary Internet Files things would've been clearer. At least they would've been if you were using IE 4.0 as I am.

My SW comes with Space Wizard. The icon for this program has a broom. I'm guessing, but a broom icon seems appropriate for Clean Sweep. Perhaps Norton changed the name. SW finds temporary files, duplicates, and miscellaneous junk. It doesn't remove or restore programs.

It appears that your Speed Disk differs from mine by quite a bit. I have a Properties/Options..., which allows me to customize. Customize brings up seven tabs of choices. I don't have a Simple defrag. What I meant was to go through each tab and select the simple and/or easy choices. You could do this, but I cannot direct you through the proper click-stream.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Space Wizard icon looks like an Electric broom.
