Investors on this thread buy a few coins, or maybe even an occasional bar, but most buy the metal producing stocks for leverage. Producers buy options and hedge for leverage, investors buy stocks for leverage, but who is actually buying gold? If investors want to really light a match they should sell 1/3 of their mining stock holdings and buy the metal.
