Hi Elmatador,

First of all let me welcome you to this board!

This is the way I see it:

1) OFDM and DSSS are both transport technologies
2) GSM, CDMA and other variants of 3G are based on DSSS
3) OFDM is spectrally a more efficient technology than DSSS
4) OFDM is more scalable than DSSS, for example Wi-Lan has plans to trial 90MB systems within 2-5 months
5) OFDM is computationally more intensive than DSSS, thus its practical implementation is only being possible now
6) OFDM has been demonstrated to be highly mobile.
7) OFDM has been mentioned as the transport technology for 4G

The fact that the first market segment being address by Wi-Lan is BFW doesn´t mean that the technology cannot be used in a cellular mobile environment. Wi-Lan is a small company that can only tackle so much at a time.

3G infrastructure is not deployed yet. But it will be deployed, although at a slower rate than anticipated last year. Simultaneous to that,Wi-Lan´s W-OFDM will be deployed, first taking the form of BFW, via mainly ISP´s that want to extend their services . Then, sooner, rather than later mobility(with voice via VOIP included) will be added to that same BFW infrastructure.

As you can see both technologies will share the same deployment time frame, starting now. Initially, each will tackle different market segments. But because of the intrinsic properties of OFDM and hardware advances (3G & OFDM)market focus will converge into the same type of customers a couple of years from now.

I don´t know who will win. But IMHO: 2 years from now OFDM vendors (Wi-Lan included) will be offering mobile solutions (voice via VOIP included)at much faster data rates than any other 3G technology

Take care
