Judy, I never use hibernate and standby any more. Had similar problems to yours and have read comments by computer gurus that these functions tend to be unreliable. Gottfried Totally agree,even my "deluxe"Dell keyboard Sleep feature works about like me,when it feels like it.:) I set my PM to shut off the monitor and hard drive after 15 minutes of inactivity and have eliminated the need for screensavers. Ed

I never use hibernate and standby any more Me too, Gottfried. My old Hitachi used to hibernate and standby effortlessly...I'd just plop the lid down when I was finished with the computer for the night (helps to keep the cat hairs out <g>), pop it open the next morning, and it would be fine. However, the IBM Thinkpad (don't get me started) I had after that and even my current Dell Inspiron don't handle hibernation/standby well. If they're on, I keep the lids up. Otherwise, I shut down and close the lids. Fortunately, they both have proven to be fairly resistant to cat hairs, so their hibernation/standby failures have not been a problem. Also, one tip for frequent travelers: this is a bit of a pain in hotel rooms, since I tend to leave my laptop open on the desk. But the maids are usually taught to spray EVERYTHING.....and even though they're trying to avoid the computer, some of the spray is going to hit your laptop. This is not good for your keyboard. For this reason, when I'm traveling, I shut down and close the lid on the computer during the morning hours when the maids are cleaning. }=>------->>>>
