Tom, Nothing can save you from the cold calling phase other than a large client list. I will be starting from a nice base, but I still expect to dial for dollars. Fortunately, I know a lot of people, so the calls will be at least moderately warm in many cases. <g> I think small banks can be fine, but it is hard to understand their risks unless you know the loan portfolio. For example, I remember when Texas banks were the flavor of the year in the 1980s. Now, there is one independent survivor left from those days. I believe there are plenty of investments in smaller banks and insurance cos. that will work out great, but I can't get the info I need to make me buy them.
