Unocal Wins as Top U.S. Court Upholds Gasoline Patent (Update1) quote.bloomberg.com "The court...turned aside an appeal by Exxon Mobil Corp. and four other companies seeking to invalidate the patent. The group said Unocal's patent was designed to mirror California's fuel requirements, effectively forcing refiners to pay damages in order to comply with the state's rules....``For five years we were laughing at them. Now they're going to be laughing at everybody,'' said Fadel Gheit, a Fahnestock & Co. oil analyst who rates Unocal stock a ``buy.....Between 1997 and 2000, Unocal received four additional patents that were an outgrowth of the original research and supplemented the claims of the original '393' patent.
