Yes, Intel is doing some excellent financial management. They are cutting discretionary
spending significantly at the same time keeping all the core operations alive by not making cuts there
so that they can be prepared for next upturn whenever it comes. They are being brave in making
unconventional spending decisions and hedging their bet to some extent at the same time. That is
a mark of a successful company in the long run.

I just got an e-mail today saying that if exempt employees like me haven't ordered free PCs as of today, they'll have to wait until 2002.

Personally, I was waiting for the laptop, which would have been available for order on March 1st. Now I'll have to wait longer to become a "road warrior."

here is ssb on cost cutting - seems like intel is hoping for the end of the quarter recovery to meet already low expectations
