Its not so strange at the tail end of an expansion to see strong retail sales. Here is a great article which explains how much of the M3 growth is making its way to the consumer now instead of capex.

North of Ft. Worth on 287 there is a field of repo'd big rigs. A few months ago there were 25 or so rigs. Now there are hundreds. Looks like a sea of trucks.....scotty

Just a quick poll- what is the largest number of points anyone here has CONTINUOUSLY shorted a stock downwards before you covered?

My current champ is BRCM- I shorted just shy of 140 and rode it all the way down to 64 today, where i finally covered. So that's 76 points, with 5k shares short the whole way..

(ok, so I did occasionally hedge with some calls but I never covered the core 5k shares)

Brownie points to anyone who has shorted a stock into bankruptcy and never had to cover.

(Pardon the double negative, but) Greater biz at Costco, Blockbuster, and movie theaters are not a good indication that we have not hit a slowdown...I would expect all those places to do BETTER business in a slowdown (substitution for higher-priced alternatives)..
