Palm On Track To Hit Q301 Estimates
MarketCap: $12.9 Billion Index: NASDAQ 100, S&P 500, Russell 1000
Andrew J. Neff - IAppliances

"PALM is on track to meet revenue expectations for Q301, provided that there is a strong finish consistent with historical seasonal patterns --
based on our analysis of monthly data released by market research firm PC Data. When we extrapolate PC Data’ s January retail sales for
Palm, we arrive at $377-$549 million in revenue for Q301, on target to meet our estimate of $485 million.

Historically, PALM’ s February
quarter is back-end loaded, making February the key month – Palm should benefit from increased availability of its products both
domestically and internationally and aggressive push of Palm VIIx. The current quarter reflects seasonality as well as the absence of major
new products, which we expect to see in Q401. The numbers from PC Data are consistent with our own proprietary survey. We reiterate our
Buy on PALM and maintain our Neutral on Handspring due to valuation concerns. For Palm, we maintain our EPS estimate of $0.14 on
revenues of $2.0 billion for FY01 -- including 3Q01 EPS of $0.01.

We maintain our 12-mo. price target of $45, reflecting our valuation
approach which is detailed below and which assesses the value of the device and software businesses. Using a similar methodology, we
derive a 12-mo. price target of $35 for HAND, valuing the company an innovative designer and marketer of handheld devices.
