Hitachi's Storage Unit Ready to Compete with EMC

February 21, 2001 (TOKYO) -- Hitachi Ltd. formed a partnership with Veritas Software
Corp., a major U.S.-based vendor of storage management software, for sales of Veritas
products and joint marketing.

Hitachi will embark on sales of backup software as well as storage management
software from Veritas in combination with Hitachi's storage products.

At a press conference announcing the tie-up, Hiroaki Nakanishi, managing officer and
group executive of Hitachi's Information and Telecommunication Systems Group,
described EMC Corp. as an "archrival." EMC is a goliath in the storage business sector.

"Hitachi is fully prepared to compete with EMC by arranging sales combination of our
storage products and Veritas' storage-related software," Nakanishi said.

"Our company isn't going solo. Rather we have decided to reinforce solutions
collectively with our business partners as indicated by this strategic alliance."

The storage business sector has recently experienced bargaining among vendors.

On Jan. 31, Fujitsu Ltd. aligned with Compaq Computer KK. At that time, a Fujitsu
executive in charge of its storage business said: "I would like to see Fujitsu rank as No.
1 in the storage market for domestic open systems and also as No. 5 or higher in the
global market by 2003 at the latest."

Nakanishi said he didn't consider Fujitsu to be a rival, and emphasized that his company
would target EMC:

"Our current position maintains that it is out of question to even think a bit about
ourselves saying that Fujitsu is a rival," Nakanishi said.

we need to get to that point where they want to get out of everything, JUST GET ME OUT I CAN;T TAKE THE PAIN ANY LONGER , I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER DIP AS LONG AS I LIVE -G-
