Certain major insurance carriers now require their MRI providers to be accredited by the ACR. Dr. Raymond V. Damadian, president and chairman of FONAR Corporation, said, ``We are pleased that the QUAD(TM) 12000 is meeting the high standards set by the ACR. It's an important achievement for us because it's a truly objective measure of the performance of our equipment. The fact that the accreditation process is being conducted by highly regarded representatives of the radiological community makes it that much more rewarding. At the same time, it confirms the effectiveness of our intensified, company-wide quality control program. Potential customers can be assured that FONAR products are quality products.'' A number of major insurance companies are requiring that provider facilities performing MRI scans on their members be accredited by the ACR MRI Accreditation Program. These include Aetna, U.S. Healthcare and Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield in certain regions of the country. Dr. Damadian continued, ``It's a great comfort to both existing and potential FONAR customers to learn of the success of our QUAD(TM) 12000 users, especially in light of the possibility that, in the future, additional insurance companies and other third party payors will also require ACR accreditation of their providers.'' The Company reports that other QUAD(TM) 12000 users are currently seeking ACR accreditation. The ACR's MRI Accreditation Program evaluates equipment performance, quality of images, qualifications of personnel and effectiveness of quality control measures, factors believed to be of primary importance in regard to the quality of clinical images and the quality of patient care. The first of the two-part accreditation process includes the review of credentials of physicians, physicists and technologists; the second part involves the acquisition of clinical and phantom images and corresponding data for each. The Company's full product line, the FONAR Seven, also includes the Stand-Up MRI(TM), the world's only positional MRI (pMRI) scanner, enabling patients to be scanned in upright, weight-bearing positions as well as in the conventional lie-down position; the economical Echo(TM); the FONAR-360 (TM), available in its ``open sky'' configuration and, in the future, in its ``interventional 360'' configuration for MRI-guided interventions; its works-in-progress mpExtremity(TM), a Stand-Up extremity scanner; and its works-in-progress Pinnacle(TM) with superconducting MRI technology.
