I don't think that the current situation of Canadian "medical care" is what Tommy Douglas intended. His original idea was to provide care for difficult (expensive treatment) medical problems for families without the means to pay the real costs associated with the malady. The costs of these malady cases, of which were presumed to be a small portion of the population, would be shared by the population in general and would be a small and humane cost to the tax base. But, politics and promises of politicians changed that. Trudeau solidified this belief to the culture as he promoted Canada as a humane society. It probably is that, humane, but its health care system is unfair, too expensive and discriminates against poor people, not that that should be a surprise to anyone in the USA. Neither system is great but the USA system is cheaper per capita with more options and benefits.
