In one of the recaps this week, they show a graphic saying the G's in this crash were 200 forward and after the hit 180 back.

You can strap the body in as tight as possible, but the brain and internal organs float loose and are still subject to the G loads. Ernie Irvan had an eye nearly blown out of the socket.

I don't think there is much that can be done to eliminate the dangers of bunched up racing on super speedways. Daytona and Talladega were built to go fast, but not with 43 cars separated by .2 seconds.

As for soft walls, one of the racing shows this week showed the options and what it boils down to is space and money. As with everything else, it's a trade-off.
