Amy,

According to Peter Lynch's book it most certainly did. He said in 1982 or 1983, he found himself wondering if the USA was on an economic brink.

There is often a disconnect between reality and its portrayal in media, and it is interesting that it confuses even people with such an access to information as Peter Lynch has.

Anyway, the last quarter of negative growth in early 80s was Q3 1982, with negative growth of -2.2%

Last week, you had posted that you live in the most densely populated city in the world - I'm curious, what country do you live in?

I am not sure about the whole city, but I read an article in NY Times where they profiled the neighborhood in New York City where I live, and they said it had the highest population density in the world. (The article doesn't appear to be online anymore).
