David Boies's Firm to Enforce Intellectual Property Rights of Paradigm Advanced Technologies, Inc.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 21, 2001--David Boies of Boies, Schiller, & Flexner LLP has been retained by Paradigm Advanced Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB:PRAV), (www.powerloc.com) as lead attorney to enforce all of its intellectual property rights relating to US Patent #B1 5,043,736, which covers the process of GPS information transmission over Cellular telephone networks.

The patent licensing rights which Paradigm owns are very broad in nature, covering the apparatus and method of transmitting position information from satellite navigational signals (such as GPS) over cellular systems to a base unit and displaying the location of a person or object so equipped. This information would then allow for the location of a vehicle, person, or object to be displayed on a map.

"Having reviewed Paradigm's patent licensing rights, we feel confident that companies infringing on those rights will have to pay a licensing fee to Paradigm", Christopher Boies, a partner at the firm, said.

"The approach initially will be to afford infringers the opportunity to license Paradigm's technology, with the alternative being litigation," said Andrew Hayes, a partner of Boies, Schiller & Flexner. "We have assembled a highly skilled team of litigators and patent lawyers who will vigorously enforce the company's rights under the patent."

"We are very pleased to be working with David Boies and his excellent team," said David Kerzner, Chairman of Paradigm. "The engagement of Boies, Schiller & Flexner is a significant validation of the patent. The firm has an outstanding litigation record. David Boies has been lead attorney in a number of high profile actions and has the talent and experience to effectively maximize our revenue from the patent."

The size of the market for the Company's technology is growing at a very rapid rate, as more applications come onto the market. The FCC, for example, has mandated that cellular telephones will need to be trackable for Emergency 911 calls in future years. Industry growth appears to be significantly exceeding the initial forecasts and it appears that the process covered by the patent is likely to be used by more and more companies as the telematics industry expands.

Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP specializes in litigation, international arbitration and corporate transactional work. The firm has offices in New York, Washington DC, Florida and New Hampshire and employs over 90 lawyers.

Paradigm, through its PowerLOC division, is developing a range of location commerce (L-BIZ(TM)) products and services to enable the wireless location tracking of vehicles, persons, assets and even pets. As part of this strategy, PowerLOC is signing up Location-based service providers (LSP's) who will provide location tracking services using PowerLOC's server based technology. PowerLOC is also forming strategic alliances with equipment manufacturers, systems integrators and carriers who will use PowerLOC's unique architecture to expand their products and services.

In its most recent acquisition of NaftEL's Technologies Ltd.'s navigation technologies, Paradigm has positioned itself at the forefront of its field with the ability to compress high-resolution detailed maps so that they can be viewed on devices with limited on-board memory. This advanced technology also provides graphic or voice commands on portable computers, hand held devices (PDAs) and cellular phones to enable dynamic navigation for persons and vehicles.
