Tench Re..Also, remember Clinton's cruise missile strike on Osama bin Laden during his impeachment hearings in late 1998? I'll bet absolutely no one ever heard of Bin-Laddy before then. Funny how Clinton's political opponents actually supported his military strike, despite its very questionable timing. Also funny how Bush's political opponents are not giving Bush the same benefit of the doubt.<<<<<

Tench, a very well thought out paragraph. And that is the point I was trying to make to Ted. It is too early to criticize. Quite often things are done for reasons only the people involved can imagine. Does that mean we should stand idly by while a Vietnam unfolds. No, but until the facts are known, we should support the gov.

Personally I don't think Colin had a choice but to respond to Saddam's sudden aggression before his Mideast trip. You don't try to finesse a hand in polker by seeming weak. You finesse a hand by appearing stronger than you actually are with a bluff causing the others to fold. Whether it will work remains to be seen by history. A lot of people in the mideast will try not to blink next wk. OPEC, Saddam, other mideastern allies and foes along with the US; will be trying to stare the other down. We can only hope we don't have to blink first.
