Hi Zeev Hed; Re morals &c. Was that former boss, now in jail, a particularly intelligent guy? Or perhaps was his inability to distinguish between right and wrong due to some combination of a lack of imagination or thought?

Zeev,

Thanks for finding the words I wanted to say! For an English challenged person you sure do have a way with English words. Thanks again and many thanks for all your post here on SI. Can't wait until you turn bullish for a little longer than a few minutes!

Hi Zeev - people do the strangest things when they encounter situations beyond their anticipation. Remember the kid who created the EMLX hoax?! Or, gamblers like me <g> who would take more risk when the going got rough. Strange to the observers, but even Dostoyevsky could not escape the deadly grip. But of course, this is no excuse for people who commit a crime. OTOH, my observation is that the US tends to be ultra conservative [strange from someone who has come from a conservative culture, historically <g>] in sexual matter. Maybe there is also a confusion between morality and convention. But of course, the last time I thought a politician was honest and noble was back in the 70s when someone asked if President Carter always tells the truth. I was the lone person raising my hand <vbg>!

best, Bosco

Zeev,

I call that "walking the fine grey line". Staying out there on the ragged edge. Sometimes crossing the line. Sometimes not. But always pushing the boundaries a little more each time. Sooner or later, people like that piss everybody off and loose everything. I too have a former boss like that. He is not in jail but Florida had to rewrite the mortgage lending law after he went down and the rest of us are suffering the consequences. Note: I left his employ a full year before he got caught. He was so mad at me that he treated my "corporate memory" like the ancient Romans treated the memories of deposed emperors. He removed all record of my ever being there and fired anybody that ever mentioned my name. Which worked out fine for me.

"A charming person on a personal basis, but without an iota of moral guidance in his actions."
