Does anyone else think Greenspan totally messed up. That he got too much credit for when things were going well.
It is probably a big majority that thinks he is out to lunch for not taking action.

On the other hand; what if AG had cut today...it would have signalled to the market that he is just trying to support it like he did early in January.
He probably hopes to cut when he sees the market stabilize or bounce off the lows. If however, it sets new lows, I bet he will cut quickly anyways.

Bottom line..he wants to cut to support the market but does not want it to appear that way. So he looks for the market to stabilize (ie bottom out) before making a move.

This is about the most negative I have seen analysts, portfolio managers, individuals investors in years. Everybody is holding back. That has to mean the bottom is here; there are just no bulls left. Everyone is talking about how much lower the tech stocks can go.
Makes you think doesn't it......

BTW--I am as negative as ever and trying to be a contarian against my own nervousness on the market ---but even this is difficult.
